Being a Terrier Enthusiast made it a special honour for me to be invited to judge at this very well organised and attended Terrier Group Open Show therefore I thank the Officers & Committee but especially the exhibitors for turning out during some of the worst weather in living memory. I always take time to read The Breed Standard again prior to judging, to refresh my mind on some of the finer points of the breed which just might swing my decision towards one dog over another where difficult decisions arise. Parson Russell Terrier Junior 1. Biglands, Heythrop Tiffin. 10 mth bitch. Presented a good outline both moving and standing. Easily spanned, good weight and height, came to hand very well. Proportionate head with great expression. Large teeth, good scissor bite and good strength to the jaw. Good neck leading to well placed shoulders, straight, narrow front, standing on firm feet with good pads. Ribs well back with good strength to loin. Tail well set on. Good angulation front and rear, well let down hocks leading to positive movement. RBOB & BPIB 2. Newports, Digaden Taylor Made. 9 mth bitch. Not overly happy in her surroundings today but handled well in order to show her off. Easily spanned, good weight and height. Everything in proportion, very good coat and when settled, move out well. Look forward to seeing her in a happier frame of mind in the future. Parson Russell Terrier Post Graduate 1. Newports, Pacolito Fieldmaster Into Digaden. 10 mth dog. Well presented, good balance, easily spanned with good weight and height. In cracking coat today, very good muscle tone. Lovely proportionate head, good teeth in strong jaw. Well laid shoulders and straight front. Moved out well. Parson Russell Terrier Open. 1. Newports, Digaden Secret Affair. 18 month old bitch. I tend not to look at dogs entering the ring so as not to use that old cliche', " caught my eye entering the ring". She didn't, but as soon as I looked at her I thought she would be the type I would like to take out in the fields for the day. A lovely terrier attitude, wanting to know what was around her, up on her toes and moved with great drive at all times. Presenting a lovely outline standing and moving, well balanced and came to hand readily. Easily spanned with great height and weight ratio. Ribs well back with a strong loin. Very good overall muscle tone without being overdone in any way. Great angulation with well let down hocks. Coat wasn't best today but they are transient, construction is permanent and with her correct construction she moved around the ring with plenty of drive being also efficient covering the ground. BOB 2. Biglands, Heythrop Tailwind. 4 yr old lad who wanted to be back home with his ladies.....which showed in his movement today. Easily spanned with good weight and height. Proportionate head with good teeth in a scissor bite. Good muscletone, another who could get out and about easily. Regards Darren Lockley Chatmoss Border Terriers www.chatmossborderterriers.co.uk |
